elementsdb+ CityEngine is an adaptation of elementsdb cases to CityEngine, the three-dimensional (3D) procedural modeling environment developed by ESRI. This prototype uses CityEngine’s parametric rule structure to automates the adaptation, replication and visualization of the geometric attributes of elementsdb cases to local site planning rules such as parcel size, orientation, building height, coverage and setbacks. Case parameters may be refined using CityEngine’s sliders or tabular interfaces and the corresponding building form changes are reflected dynamically. Visual, spatial and quantitative records can be captured, saved and exported for later reference or further analysis.
The initial prototype application was developed in 2013 and applied in measured visualization projects for the City of Richmond and the City of Vancouver.
