Targeted to a general population, visitors to Climate and Community experienced an introduction to energy and emissions issues in Columbia Basin communities. Visitors were invited to explore these issues through simulations of four different approaches to adding 500 new residents to a community. Aerial and street level visualizations communicated how dwelling types, urban form, and mobility contribute to energy use and emissions. Users could evaluate their selected option against community planning priorities such as dwelling diversity or walkability.
The underlying simulation depicted was based on the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions sponsored project, “Measured Visualizations of Urban Form Scenarios as a Means to Community Engagement in Planning for Climate Change” undertaken in 2012 and 2013 in collaboration with staff and citizens of the City of Revelstoke. The publicly assembled is no longer supported in the interactive version of this project.
